Meenakari of the Indian Raj ー a Contemporary Twist on Mughal Masterpieces
For the second time, Amrapali Jewels will be debuting their Fine Jewellery Masterpieces at Japan’s most prestigious department store, Mitsukoshi Nihonbashi. Back by popular demand, Amrapali’s new collection will showcase grandiose pieces that highlight Indian contemporary designs with a western twist – featuring Amrapali’s enamel jewellery.
Earlier in 2016, Amrapali’s masterpieces and enamel techniques were featured at the world’s largest museum for art and design, Victoria & Albert Museum in London. To commemorate their second debut at Mitsukoshi Nihonbashi, Amrapali is offering a chance for consumers in Japan to build their very own customisable enamel rings using the same techniques featured at the V&A Museum.
「मीनाकारी」or Meenakari, also known as enamelling, was introduced to the Indian subcontinent by the Mughals who brought the art over from their conquests and trades in through Iran, Afghanistan, and neighbouring countries. Flourishing during the late 19th century to today in Rajasthan, Maharaja Sawai Mansingh is often credited by historians with making Jaipur arguably one of the most predominant capitals of Meenakari work in India.
An art form carried over centuries, Amrapali invites you to visit us at Mitsukoshi to order your very own enamel ring now!
